Do or die for the Boks

The Springboks will be well aware of the threat that the All Blacks posses ahead of tomorrow’s RWC Semi – Final at the home of rugby, Twickenham. The Boks have only won one clash against the All Blacks under coach Meyer’s command and will be desperate to get another win under their belts, but it won’t be easy. Having looked at both sides, the key to the Boks winning will be decided by jerseys #1-10 in the green and gold. The All Blacks play running rugby and although there is plenty of flair in our centre pairing of Damian and Jesse, there just isn’t enough experience to contend with the likes of Conrad Smith, Ma’a Nonu and Sonny Bill- Williams(it’s days like these you miss the experience and cool head of Jean de Villiers).

What the books then have to do is keep the ball in their forward pack, and allow Skipper, Fourie du Preez, and his outside half, Handre Pollard to dictate the game. Speaking of Handre, Meyer said that if the Boks were to win The World Cup, it would be done off of Pollard’s boot, and just this week, All Black Legend, Dan Carter, expressed his excitement at being able to have a go at Pollard. Handre is going to have to call on the resilience and the tenacity he showed when captaining the Baby Boks and the experience of #9, Captain, du Preez, if he is to handle the pressure he faces ahead of tomorrow’s clash.

There are many small battles which on take place in tomorrows game, namely #9v#9, #10v#10 #14v#11.

How else can the Springboks win this game? Mental strength and playing 90(That is not a typing error), yes, 90 minutes of rugby and they have to want this game more than a roaring New Zealand side.

With one victory achieved by the students of South Africa, its up to Meyer and his troops to put the icing on the cake.

Macufe Cup 2015

Two of our soccer freaks on the Kovsie FM Sport’s Team, Godfrey Seale and Sechaba Ramahlaha, had the chance to rub shoulders with some of the game’s greats this weekend, with a touchline view of the 2015 SPARTA Macufe Cup match Between Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic. Here’s what they had to say:

A warm sunny afternoon welcomed Kaizer Chiefs to the city of roses in this years’ Macufe Cup. Celtics went into this one having won two and drawn one in their last 3 league games, whereas Kaizer Chiefs had drawn two and won one. Team news saw both Celtics and Chiefs rest key players for the clash, with the league rapidly approaching.

The competition has grown in leaps and bounces over the years and both
teams showed hunger to be crowned the 2015 Macufe Cup champions, but
it was Siwelele Sa Masele who were lucky on the day. Although Celtic started the match at the slow pace, allowing Amakhosi to come to them and trying to punish them on the counter attack, Clinton Larsen’s men had a couple of chances that they could’ve converted, but the first half ended goalless.

Celtic’s players must have been vastly influenced by manager Clinton Larsen at the break, as they came into the second half fired up and with plenty of possession and creativity on the ball. It paid off for Siwelele Sa Masele in the 61st minute. Celtic caught Chiefs on a counter attack with a defence splitting pass that found Tshegofatso Mabaso between Siyanda Xulu and Morgan Gould facing their own goalkeeper, and he easily passed the ball in the back of the net, leaving Brilliant Khuzwayo with nothing to do.

Steve Khompela’s troops tried to get an equalizer but Siwelele were well disciplined and protected their lead until the final whistle. Celtics can now proudly say they are the Macufe Cup champions for 4 years running. Bloemfontein sport fans can finally walk around with their head up high.
